I’m giving away a bit of a painting related freebie today for other artists. While practicing painting i find it really hard to find decent reference photos for subject matter. Magazines are good but often the photos are very small or too busy and the internet doesn’t really help either. It’s hard to find exactly what you want, which for me when it comes to still life, is a good clean simple set up. So i decided today to pick myself up some flowers and arrange them in various ways to make up a bit of a stockpile of resource photos for myself. Lots of different combinations and colours. I now have a whole heap of photos to use when i am stuck for ideas and i’ve posted a few of them up on flickr for other artists to download and use if they like. They are not huge files, but they are big enough to print at A4 to use as a subject for those wanting to practice and can’t be bothered creating their own set up.
Trust me, you can spend hours scouring google images trying to find something that is just right only to then find that you can’t use it because of copyright. So these are being given away with no copyright attached. They may not be what you’re looking for either, but if they are and you happen to use them, all i ask is that they are used to paint or draw from only and not manipulated as digital images and re-posted onto the web. And please credit and link me if you use the photos and post your artwork somewhere on the web, just so others can have access to this free resource as well.
