We have a new family member. This is Trigger, we picked him up today. He is a 6 week old Jack Russell. Now those who know me are aware that I am really not a dog person. I prefer cats, and although I have had pet dogs in the past I have never really enjoyed their company. But I knew very early on in our relationship that Trent was a dog fan and was quite keen to have one.
After much discussion I decided that I would tolerate a small dog… Which was good because Trent had only ever had small dogs and was quite happy with that compromise. So we started casually looking for something that would suit us.
After a disastrous trip last week that saw us driving over the other side of the city to pick up a puppy, only to arrive and find the last two were sold 20 min earlier, we found another advertisement for some Jack Russell pups that were within our price range and ready to pick up. It was another risk to take considering we had to drive over an hour away to get there but it was worth it.
I had decided the day before to let koby take the day off school because he was not well (still isn’t) but I was still planing on taking Charlee. I then decided it wouldn’t be fair for her to miss out so we let her come as well but neither of them had any idea that we were going to pick up a puppy until Trent walked out of the guys house holding this little cutie.
They were SO excited. I love surprising them with things and this was worth the constant nagging about “where are we going” on the way.
We are all completely besotted with him, he has a lovely temperament (so far lol) and despite being covered head to toe in fleas he seems to be very healthy. We need to take him to the vet to be microchipped and given his final vaccinations this week, so he will be confined to home for a while.
Brace yourself for a photo over lode of this little man over the next few weeks

I know I seem to have fallen off the wagon, but I haven’t. It’s been a bit of a hectic weekend so I am a little behind on the painting a day thing. But once I palm Noah off to the grandparents for play group tomorrow I plan on coming home and getting stuck into some serious painting. I have three days to do as well as a commission I need to make a start on.
So normal programming shall resume as of tomorrow.
I ran into my ex and his little miss “totally gets me in every way but has nothing to do with why I’m leaving you” at Coles today.
Even though it’s been over two years since I found out about them, she still looked like she wanted the ground to open up beneath her or to suddenly turn into a cereal box so she could melt into the aisle so I wouldn’t notice her.
It was very satisfying to see.
Is it wrong of me to want that terrible feeling of guilt to haunt her for the rest of her life? Lol
Just for something a little different i decided to take part in a challenge over at Daily Paintworks today, the challenge was to take one subject and paint it twice in one sitting. So i painted these two quick sketches from a photo i found. Both are 8×10″ oil on canvas board.
I can slowly feel myself getting better and better at handling oils. I think this looser style is my favourite but it is really REALLY hard to control the urge to go crazy with detail. I’m still learning to rein myself in a bit and limit the number of brush strokes i use to describe each element.
The first painting will appear on Etsy soon. As for the second one, i’ve decided would be fun to it give away to one lucky reader. All you need to do to enter is leave a comment here and link my blog on your Facebook page. I’ll be back in a week to draw out a name.
In other news…well there is no other news really. Not a lot happening over here. Everyone is a dealing with an annoying little virus that is causing coughs and sniffles. Noah had a really rough night last night, i have no idea what his problem was but i was up and down to him several times and eventually brought him into bed with us at about 5am. He seems perfectly happy and full of mischief today though so i’m a little stumped.
I’m loving my hair still (that sounds so silly lol), i washed it the other morning for the first time and i was impressed that it only took an hour to dry and style..i was expecting it to take longer after all the talk i had heard. Hopefully i will get quicker at it when i learn to stop being quite so precious. That hour included washing, blow drying and then a quick loose curl with the GHD styler. If i took out that last step it would have been quicker but i prefer it with a bit of a curl.
Next month it’s both mine and Koby’s birthdays, i need to start getting organized and work out what he wants to do. Last i heard he was keen on having an archery party. I have no idea what to get him yet. What do you get a ten year old who has everything and only ever wants to play computer games anyway? I’m so sick of buying games for him, but he isn’t interested in anything else. Trent suggested a pocket knife and i promptly shot that down in flames with a look of horror…not my baby. Besides it will only get him into trouble anyway…his sisters hurt themselves enough on their own without him chasing them around the yard with a pocket knife. What goes through the brains of men sometimes?
