I finally finished charlee’s t-shirt quilt last night. I am so happy with how it came out. This is the second t-shirt quilt I’ve made now, the first was for koby(which was posted about way back on the old blog here), and i learned a lot from the mistakes i made with that one. So i am a lot happier this time around. The first problem i had with koby’s one was that the t-shirt fabric kept stretching out of place as i stitched each square together. So this time i used iron on interfacing on all the jersey/t-shirt fabrics to eliminate the stretching. I know it seems obvious, but i didn’t even think of it the first time around. This time i also did the embroidery on each square BEFORE i quilted it all together…again i know it seems obvious but i battled through embroidering koby’s quilt after i had already stitched it together and it was painful.
The backing fabric is a super soft floral vintage flannelet fabric, which makes it extra cuddly. And i also raided Dannii’s fabric stash to find something to use for the edging last night because nothing in my stash worked well with the rest of the design (thanks Dannii).
So that’s one more project ticked off my list. In other news, my cardigan is still coming along nicely, slowly yes, but i’m plodding along with it and it is starting to look really pretty. The kitchen is at a standstill until the bench is made (which will hopefully be by the end of the week). I’m getting sick of living off plastic plates and bowls, but Trent and I did test out the oven last night to cook up some potato wedges to go with our steak and it worked really well. Heated up in half the time of the old one and made them nice and crispy instead of soggy like the old one. We were quite impressed.Noah is also still going really well with sleeping in his “toddler bed” (well kind of, he is currently in his room “attempting” to have a nap but it sounds a lot more like playing with cars to me. I will have to go back in there and remind him of what he is meant to be doing in a moment).
That’s all for now. I’m off to make some lunch and then waste time on Pinterest trying to work out what i should make next
This one was another struggle. I forgot to take step by steps shots, probably because i hated it to begin with (believe it or not it started out as a vase of flowers…but i just wasn’t feeling the love so i painted over it). But now i feel like it has finally been resolved to a point where i am really happy with it. The red/pink colour is what i struggled with the most. It’s not a part of my usual pallet which i think is what threw me and made me struggle with liking it. I’m generally more of a cool colour kind of person, warm colours just don’t appeal to me. It pays to step out of your comfort zone a little bit though, and i now really like this painting. It will look lovely in my new kitchen actually, but i’ve listed it up on etsy over here if someone else would like it in their kitchen instead.
Oh and i also always really struggle when it comes to naming my paintings, in case you haven’t noticed nearly everything i create is “untitled” because i just suck at putting words to whatever i have created. Probably because i have no real idea in the beginning of how something will end up. I don’t sit and plan out each painting, developing and idea and a theme and then a title before brush hits canvas. I just go with the flow and paint what i feel. It’s very intuitive which then makes it difficult to describe and name later. So for now everything is just untitled…feel free to give them your own names if you buy one lol…. i’ve always liked the name Poppy…so maybe i should call this one poppy?
Well summer is well and truly starting to heat up around here, we haven’t really had many mega hot days so far this year, but the last three have been well over the 35 degree mark. Yesterday i had to meet up with a client in St Kilda in the morning, i had to drag all three kids along with me, so i decided to bribe them with a trip to the beach. After a quick stop off at St Kilda we then headed 10 min down the road to Brighton Beach for a few hours. It was stinking hot and rather crowded so we didn’t stay as long as i had originally planned. I had visions of me wading in the cool water while the children splashed about happily but Noah was well overdue for his nap and wasn’t really in a beach kind of mood. He did perk up a bit for a while but then he cracked it again big time because i kept putting his hat back on after he’d take it off…yeah, he didn’t like that. Anyway, we all piled back into the nice air conditioned car after a while and drove back home again, he was asleep before we had even left the shoreline. It is such a lovely beach for kids to play at though, nice shallow water, rock pools and plenty of pretty shells to collect.I have photographed an endless number of clients at this beach because of the gorgeous little beach boxes along the shore line, but it had been a while since I’d taken my kids and just had time to relax and take it all in.

Well the old kitchen is out and the new kitchen is starting to take shape. Dad has been slaving away all weekend and we have all the cabinets in as well as the oven and dishwasher. They are yet to be connected properly but it’s a start. There is so much more space now, it’s going to be gorgeous.
We survived the first weekend with no kitchen, we managed to keep the kids out of the way (most of the time). We had a little too much take away and definitely need to stock up on plastic plates, bowls and cutlery.
Noah is still going well in his little bed. He is going to sleep pretty much right away and hasn’t fallen out yet either (touch wood). He looks so adorable tucked up in his little bed, and he is very proud of himself. He has also finally started conning out with some words. So far this weekend we have had “Nanna”, “hi” and his favorite “noooo”.
That’s about all I have to report really, just another typical weekend of mess, chaos and noise.
Success! I can’t believe how easy this has been. The first night I only had to put him back in bed once and he sleep through till 7:30, yesterday he went down for his day nap after only 10 min of fussing and the same goes for bed time. This morning at 7:45 he came toddling out of his little bed looking as proud as punch.
The old kitchen was pulled out last night, it is amazing how much space we will gain by taking out the U shaped kitchen.
The plan is to get all the base cabinets in place this weekend so the bench can be ordered ready for next weekend. The oven and dishwasher were delivered yesterday as well. I now have at least two weeks of no kitchen ahead of me, so I will have to get a little inventive at meal time. Anyone have any good recipes they can share that I can cook in either the slow cooker, electric frying pan, microwave or BBQ?
